    Home -- About Addiction

Addiction or chemical dependency is a chronic, progressive, and often fatal disease. Its symptoms include craving for, tolerance of, and chemical dependence on the alcohol or drug in question.

Among the signs of addiction are:

Tolerance – drinking or drugging more in order to reach the same level of "high".

Withdrawal – Symptoms of sweating, tremors, nausea and sleeplessness and, in severe cases, seizures, can occur when use is stopped or cut back.

Ongoing desire for the drug – Even though attempts are made to get clean and sober, the desire for the drug is overpowering.

Loss of control – the addict loses control over the quantity drunk or taken, and its effects.

Focus on the drug at the expense of other things - The addict focuses on getting and consuming the drug or alcohol over and above basic daily life experiences like being with family or friends, sports, work and other interests.

Ignoring problems – continuing to drink and drug even though it causes problems with living, law enforcements, relationships and work.

The best way to relieve these symptoms is through continued abstinence and support in reaching a healthy life.

This is where treatment comes in.

With donor support, we are able to help hundreds of medically indigent adults each year.
The economic impact of each success cannot be overstated.
